American Melody rolls out at Chesapeake Shipbuilding

American Melody noses out of the hull fabrication building
American Melody's forward section emerged from the hull fabrication building at Chesapeake Shipbuilding.

Earlier this week, the section was moved to the launch ways where it will be joined to the aft section and launched into the Wicomico River.

A heavy-lift ground transfer system was used to distribute and level the load as it moved. Towering above shipyard personnel on the ground, the hull slowly and almost silently glided to its destination at the river’s edge.

Fourth in a series

American Melody is the fourth new vessel in American Cruise Lines' modern riverboat series. It is on schedule to start Mississippi River service next year.

Two months ago, American Cruise Lines took delivery of modern riverboat American Jazz, also for the Mississippi.
