Passengers will be able to join a cooking class, as well as encounter the Baixa district’s colourful Pink Street
A new shore excursion jointly created by Time Out and P&O Cruises enables passengers joining selected trips to discover Portuguese cuisine.

‘The Flavours of Lisbon by Time Out and P&O Cruises,’ available to adults only, will begin with a walking tour through Baixa and include the photo-worthy Pink Street. Together with local chef Miguel Mesquita, passengers will then visit Time Out Market – which shares the building with a centuries-old traditional food market – to discover its history, while shopping for all the ingredients needed for a cooking class.

Culinary school

At the Time Out Academy, the cooking school of Time Out Market Lisbon, passengers will learn to prepare authentic local dishes before sitting down to dine on the food.

Mesquita, executive chef of the Time Out Academy and a participant of MasterChef Portugal, leads the cooking class. He is the winner of local cooking show ‘Guerra dos Pratos’ and has gained experience in Michelin star restaurants.

Unique and authentic

P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said, ‘Time Out has been uncovering the best of cities for decades and as our exclusive exploration partner, we’re so excited that P&O Cruises guests visiting Lisbon will get the opportunity to have a truly unique, authentic, culinary experience – created and curated by Time Out experts.’

The cost of the excursion is £109 per person and available initially on three voyages, all leaving from / returning to Southampton.

The first is Iona’s 14-night cruise to Spain and Portugal departing September 23 and calling at Lisbon, Gibraltar, Alicante, Barcelona, Cadiz and La Coruna.

The second is Arvia’s 13-night Mediterranean journey kicking off October 14 with stops in Lisbon, Malaga, Barcelona and Cadiz.

Iona’s 14-night Spain and Portugal cruise departing October 28 and calling at Vigo, Malaga, Alicante, Barcelona, Valencia, Cadiz and Lisbon will also offer the excursion.

Leonie Cooper, Time Out London food and drink editor, remarked, ‘Lisbon is one of the most exciting food destinations in the world right now… P&O Cruises guests can score invaluable insider knowledge from passionate locals who'll deliver an unforgettable day of fabulous feasting.’
