Adora Magic City moves from shipyard to homeport in Shanghai ahead of debut

Adora Magic City departed Shanghai Waigaoqiao shipyard Friday and berthed at homeport Shanghai Wusongkou International Cruise Terminal this afternoon.

Yard workers held a brief ceremony to bid farewell to China’s first large newbuild cruise ship which started construction in October 2019.

A traditional Chinese dragon dance ceremony was held at the port as 135,000gt Adora Magic City approached Wusongkou. The ship is scheduled to start revenue-generating sailings from Wusongkou on January 1.

Historic moment

Ranfeng (Roger) Chen, CEO of Adora Cruises said, ‘The departure of Adora Magic City from the shipyard and successful docking at Wusongkou cruise port marks a historic moment for both our company and the cruise industry in China. We are poised to welcome our guests on board very soon.’

A ceremony was also held on Adora Magic City before departure to raise the flag of Panama, where the cruise ship is registered.

Around 1,300 crew from 30 nationalities were aboard for the shipyard to homeport transfer.                                                                                    

Measuring 323.6mtr in length, Adora Magic City can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers.
