BVI premier and Branson turn out for Virgin's first call

British Virgin Islands Premier Natalio Wheatley and Sir Richard Branson were both on hand for Virgin Voyages' inaugural call at Road Town, Tortola Sunday.

Valiant Lady represents the first new cruise line to visit the territory in 2024.

San Juan-based ship

The ship is currently on a seven-night cruise from San Juan, Puerto Rico, carrying 2,374 passengers and 1,161 crew. Guadeloupe, Barbados, St. Lucia and Antigua are other destinations. Through March, Valiant Lady is operating two southern Caribbean voyages originally scheduled for Brilliant Lady, 'Southeastern Caribbean Isles' and 'Sunsets in the Lesser Antilles.'

Wheatley, who also serves as finance minister, presented a maiden call plaque to Branson and Valiant Lady Capt. Justin Lawes during a plaque and key exchange ceremony on board at Tortola's cruise pier.
