Blue Dream Star, operated by China’s Blue Dream Cruises, is set to start carrying passengers on regular cruises from Shanghai to Japan from June 19.

The 2001-built ship, capable of carrying up to 1,053 passengers, sailed on a trial voyage to Fukuoka, Japan last week from Shanghai’s Wusongkou with no passengers.

It is planned to offer four-, five- and seven-night cruises to Japan from next month, visiting Japan's Hiroshima, Miyajima, Naoshima, Kochi, Osaka, Beppu and other ports.

Blue Dream Cruises

Blue Dream Cruises was established in 2016 by Fujian Zhongyuan Investment Group, Zhoushan Putuo Communication Investment Group and Qingdao Shibei Investment Group.

At 24,782gt, Blue Dream Star was constructed by Blohm+Voss as Olympic Explorer and renamed Explorer in 2004 when operated for Semester at Sea.

The ship was then renamed Celesytal Odyssey in 2015 before being sold by Celesytal Cruises to Chinese owners Diamond Cruises and renamed Glory Sea in 2016.
