'We look forward to having the whole world be able to enjoy this beautiful ship,' Silversea President Barbara Muckermann said
Silversea Cruises' Silver Nova embarked Monday on its maiden voyage from Venice (Fusina), with the ship's naming festivities set for Jan. 4 at Port Everglades.

The majority of passengers — 400 — are new to the brand.

Noting Silversea's propensity for longer sailings, President Barbara Muckermann announced the naming date during a short preview cruise for the trade and said Silver Nova will visit 'the whole world' during its first year.

Grand South America voyage

Jan. 4 is the start of the 71-day 'Grand Voyage South America,' visiting 38 destinations in 18 countries.

Asia-Pacific, Mediterranean and Alaska

From South America, Silver Nova will continue to Asia-Pacific, 'where we can't wait to introduce her to our Australian and Japanese friends,' Muckermann said. From there, the ship will 'slowly make her way back' to the Mediterranean and then to Alaska.

'So we look forward to having the whole world be able to enjoy this beautiful ship,' Muckermann said.

More immediately, the maiden voyage is a relatively short weeklong Adriatic trip, then Silver Nova will spend the rest of the summer in the Mediterranean before heading to the Caribbean and South America in November.
