New charters for the 2021-built Ocean Explorer, here, and sister Ocean Odyssey (2022) are expected to be finalized soon
SunStone Maritime Group is close to firming charters for Ocean Explorer and Ocean Odyssey, which previously sailed for defunct Vantage Deluxe World Travel.

SunStone CEO Niels-Erik Lund told Seatrade Cruise News the vessels are no longer available on the market, and he hopes to finalize their future engagement during January.

According to AIS data, both ships are currently off Caen, France.

Short stint for Aurora Expeditions

In July-September, Ocean Explorer had assumed the Arctic season of sister ship Greg Mortimer for Aurora Expeditions while Greg Mortimer underwent repairs for propeller damage. During one of Ocean Explorer's four Arctic voyages, it grounded in Northeast Greenland National Park, with no injuries, damage or environmental impact reported.

Before that, in late May, Ocean Explorer and Ocean Odyssey had been withdrawn from service ahead of Boston-based Vantage Travel's filing for US bankruptcy protection. They went into layup at Caen.

Infinity-class sisters

The 2021-built Ocean Explorer and 2022's Ocean Odyssey are the second and fourth in SunStone's Infinity class, featuring Ulstein Design's X-BOW and rated Polar Class 6. They measure 104 meters/341 feet with capacity for 162 passengers each.

In December steel was cut for SunStone's seventh and final Infinity-class ship at China Merchants Heavy Industries' Haimen yard.
