For river cruise passengers, an after-dark spin around the center of Budapest to see the city's iconic illuminations from the Danube has always been a highlight.

Another unfortunate outcome of the deadly May collision between Viking Sigyn and the local excursion boat Hableány is that such tours are currently forbidden for safety reasons.

No turns between 7 p.m. and midnight

Between 7 p.m. and midnight, large river cruise vessels are prohibited from turning around in the city center.

On Monday the captain of a major river cruise vessel told Seatrade Cruise News it's not known how long this restriction will remain in place. It could be lifted at any time, he said.

The May 29 collision between Viking Sigyn and Hableány at the Margaret Bridge remains under investigation.
