City Council members 'seemed supportive' of the Port of Galveston's plan to build a fourth cruise terminal, and a deal with MSC Cruises is about a month away, according to the Galveston Daily News.

This emerged after the Wharves Board of Trustees discussed port projects with the Council on Thursday.

Port Director & CEO Rodger Rees said a contract with MSC Cruises as the major tenant of the new Terminal 16 was about 90% complete and is expected to be ready in the next 30 days, The Daily News reported.

Wharves Trustees met with the Council to keep them in the loop after earlier in the week approving general language to go ahead with Cruise Terminal 16.

$110m facility

Rees has said the approximately $110m facility ($70m for the terminal and $40m for a 1,500-space parking garage) could be ready in 2025. NCL is another potential user.

The Daily News cited Mayor Craig Brown as saying the City Council agreed the port should move forward with its plans, however members voiced some concerns.

Wharves Trustees are trying to be more communicative with the Council after earlier issues about the process related to improvements at Cruise Terminal 25, the future home of Carnival Jubilee, set to arrive in December.
