The Port of Gibraltar received the three-mast full-rigged Sea Cloud Spirit and Carnival Pride for the first time on May 14 and May 16, respectively.

Gibraltar Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport and the Port Vijay Daryanani exchanged plaques with the ships’ respective captains at the cruise terminal.

This follows maiden calls by Scenic, Costa Cruises and Ponant ships in Gibraltar last month.

‘Paying dividends’

Daryanani said, ‘I am delighted to see that the inaugurals keep coming. This allows us to promote the success of our port and our popularity as a cruising destination.

‘Over the last few weeks, while I have been marketing Gibraltar abroad, people have seen all these inaugurals in the cruise press worldwide and have engaged with me about what we have planned for the coming years.

‘This proves that our marketing is paying dividends and we will continue pushing our brand over the coming months.’

Sea Cloud Spirit

Sea Cloud Spirit arrived in the early afternoon from Málaga and left early that evening. The 4228gt ship, which has capacity for 136 passengers and 85 crew, was carrying 80 passengers and 75 crew.

Carnival Pride

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Pride arrived in the early morning and left late in the afternoon in the same day carrying 1,455 passengers and 888 crew.

The  88,500gt ship has a maximum capacity of 2,680 passengers and 930 crew.
