The 4,905-passenger ship was due to arrive at Mystery Island in Vanuatu on February 10, Noumea in New Caledonia on February 11 and Port Vila in Vanuatu on February 12.
Top priority
‘The safety of our guests, crew and communities we visit is our top priority,’ a company spokesperson said.
‘Royal Caribbean International is closely monitoring tropical cyclone Gabrielle and we have made itinerary adjustments.’
The spokesperson said Quantum of the Seas will now visit Hobart and Sydney before returning to Brisbane on schedule on February 15.
Luminosa turning back
Meanwhile, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Luminosa is turning back to the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal.
The 2,826-passenger ship departed Brisbane on February 5 for a seven-day South Pacific cruise and was due to visit Lifou in New Caledonia on February 8.
However, passengers awoke on February 8 to confirmation they were already headed back to Luminosa’s homeport.
In a letter to passengers delivered that morning, Capt. Carmelo Marino said ‘regrettably, given the forecasted path of the storm, we will not be able to deliver our planned South Pacific itinerary.
‘We will enjoy a few days at sea as we head back towards Brisbane,’ Marino wrote.
‘In the meantime, our team is attempting to secure a visit to Moreton Island for Friday (February 10) weather permitting.’
