Discover the World Marketing’s office in Australia will close its cruise division on October 10.

Recently, it had a general sales agency partnership with Celestyal Cruises, Hebridean Island Cruises and Variety Cruises.

It has also had a wholesale partnership with Ponant, Sea Cloud Cruises and Aqua Expeditions.

Discover the World, which has 60 global offices, was launched in Arizona in 1981.

Sydney office opened in 1982

The following year Australian travel agent Richard Cranmer, a member of Cruise Lines International Association Australasia’s Hall of Fame, opened the Sydney representation office.

Royal Caribbean

Cranmer was the representative and regional manager Australia for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (now Royal Caribbean Group) from 1991 until 2008 when the company decided to open its own dedicated office, taking over Cranmer’s premises and most of his staff.

In 2009 Cranmer sold the balance of his business to Discover the World’s headquarters in Arizona where his son Troy is head of cruise.

Discover the World appointed former Air Canada MD Australia and New Zealand Jeannie Foster as country director.

Small ship cruising has not bounced back

Foster told Seatrade Cruise News that, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, small ship cruising has not bounced back.

‘I think it is going to be a long time for the cruise industry to pick up and it is time for us to consolidate our business,’ she said.
