Seventeen-year Royal Caribbean International veteran Kara Wallace was promoted to chief marketing officer.

She had served as acting CMO since Jim Berra's departure in November.

Global marketing and advertising, brand strategy

Duties include global marketing and advertising, social media, consumer insights, web, e-commerce and media. Wallace will also play an important role in developing brand strategy and vision.

Previously Wallace was VP North American marketing. Earlier roles included brand management and media, consumer insights and marketing strategy, and market research. She joined Royal Caribbean in 2005 as a market research analyst.

Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International, credited Wallace's work and leadership over 17 years as key to the brand's growth and profitability.

'Come Seek' campaign and consumer insights

'She spearheaded the introduction of our popular "Come Seek" brand campaign, the development of first-in-class consumer insights that help inform new ideas for our ships and destinations, and the growth of our social media fanbase to 7.5 million followers and counting — the most in the travel industry,' Bayley said. 'I’m very excited to see Kara keep building on her many years of success at Royal Caribbean.'
