The South Australian Country Fire Service and Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure have advised Cruise & Maritime Voyages that Vasco da Gama will not be required to assist with the evacuation of Kangaroo Island.

After dropping its call there, the ship had anchored a safe distance off Penneshaw in case residents and tourists needed to be evacuated.

SeaLink ferries on standby

CMV has been told that SeaLink ferries are on standby to assist if necessary and that the situation is still being monitored.

Vasco da Gama will now continue on her four-night ‘South Australian Icons’ round voyage from Adelaide and arrive in Port Lincoln on Sunday as scheduled.

Passengers and crew thanked

Dean Brazier, MD Australia, once more thanked passengers and crew for their ‘fantastic’ support.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with all those directly affected by this ongoing disaster,’ Brazier said.
