AIDAcosma is the sister of 2018's AIDAnova
Meyer Werft today handed over the LNG-powered AIDAcosma to AIDA Cruises, making this Meyer's fourth cruise ship delivered since the pandemic.

'We have proven once again that we can build and deliver first-class ships despite the difficult circumstances caused by the corona pandemic. With Meyer Turku's Costa Toscana, this makes the second ship that we as Meyer Group deliver to Carnival Corporation in less than three weeks,' Meyer Werft Managing Director Jan Meyer said.

AIDAnova's sister

The sister of 2018's AIDAnova, AIDAcosma is the ninth ship Meyer has built for AIDA Cruises.

'Today marks an important milestone on our journey to emission-neutral cruising,' AIDA President Felix Eicchorn said. 'With AIDAcosma and her sister ship AIDAnova, two of the most innovative cruise ships in the world belong to our fleet in terms of sustainable cruising as well as the very special guest experience and product diversity.'

What's new on board

The new four-deck Ocean Deck space offers big ocean views, extensive sunbathing and chill out space and a large infinity pool. There's also a rock-climbing walk and a ropes course. New specialty dining includes the Beach House Restaurant (for light, summery fare) and Mamma Mia (homemade pasta and other fresh Italian cuisine). The brewhouse gained an outdoor grill with a magnificent view.

Starting in late February, AIDAcosma will begin sailing from Hamburg on a series of seven-day 'metropolis' voyages.

April 9 christening in Hamburg

Champion athlete Kristina Vogel is scheduled to officially christen the ship April 9 during festivities at Hamburg. The two-week christening voyage will take passengers to Mallorca or Barcelona with calls at destinations including Lisbon, Cádiz and Málaga.

From April 23 to Oct. 15, 2022, AIDAcosma will sail from Palma and Barcelona on a weeklong 'Mediterranean Treasures' itinerary. The ship's winter 2022/23 home will be Dubai.

Eight more cruise ships in Meyer Werft's orderbook

Meyer Werft's orderbook now numbers eight cruise ships for international customers until 2025, as well as an apartment ship for Ocean Residences, whose construction is still subject to financing.

Scheduled for 2022 delivery are Disney Wish and the P&O Cruises' Arvia.

'In the following years, it will be one large and one small newbuilding each. This is significantly less than we had planned before the pandemic,' Managing Director Thomas Weigend noted.
