Over the weekend Celestyal Journey set sail on its maiden voyage around the Aegean.

Built in 1994 as Ryndam for Holland America Line, the ship underwent a €20m refit in Piraeus before its introduction by Celestyal Cruises.

Departing from Piraeus on Sunday under the command of Capt. Angelos Vassilakos. Celestyal Journey is sailing its inaugural seven-night 'Idyllic Aegean' itinerary with calls at Thessaloniki, Kusadasi, Heraklion (Crete), Santorini, Mykonos and Milos.

'It’s an extremely exciting time for us at Celestyal as we continue our investment into the fleet, with this occasion marking the start of a new chapter in the company’s vision to offer a new premium stay-in-style experience,' Celestyal CEO Chris Theophilides said.

Free suite upgrade offer extended

To showcase the Celestyal Journey's substantially increased premium balcony capacity, the line is extending its special promotion of a free suite upgrade on all Journey bookings made by Oct. 31, for travel during the rest of the year. This includes the seven-night, 'Three Continents' itinerary which commences on the new ship Oct. 21, and the special 11-, 18- and 19-night festive sailings departing in December (Dec. 16 for the 11- and 19-night cruises, and Dec. 9 for the 18-night sailing).
