'Legends of Cruising' is Silversea's most immersive world voyage to date, President and CEO Roberto Martinoli said at the send-off
In what’s touted as a first, Silversea sent off a world cruise that will touch all seven continents.

Silver Whisper embarked on the ‘Legends of Cruising 2020’ Monday from Fort Lauderdale. The ship is due to arrive in Amsterdam May 25 after circumnavigating the globe. Passengers will visit 62 destinations in 32 countres, including sailing the Antarctic Peninsula over three days.

Bon voyage

Many exclusive events await the 140-day voyage. Silversea executives including President and CEO Roberto Martinoli were on hand for a bon voyage party Jan. 5 at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach.

‘Legends of Cruising is our most immersive world cruise to date, offering an unprecedented range of experiences,’ Martinoli said. ‘Our guests’ enthusiasm for the voyage has been reflected in the exceptionally strong booking numbers.’

New cocktail program

Among the enhancements is a new cocktail program designed to immerse passengers in the destinations they’ll visit with regional drinks made from local ingredients. Previewing Silversea’s new S.A.L.T. program, to be inaugurated with Silver Moon's debut in August, the new cocktail offering comprises 62 drinks inspired by each visited region.

Travelers can learn to mix beverages at cocktail master classes where they'll sample cocktail pairings to discover new flavors. A gift box will include recipes and the stories behind all featured cocktails.

New excursions

Silversea also crafted 33 new shore experiences for the cruise. Among them: a musical and culinary journey in San Juan hosted by an acclaimed artist, a private performance of a world-renowned folkloric ballet troupe in Salvador da Bahia and a tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia in Edinburgh with the last-serving admiral.

Zodiac activities

Also, for the first time on a Silversea world cruise, passengers will get to explore in Zodiacs, supervised by the company's expedition team. In the Antarctic Peninsula, for example, team members will lead Zodiac tours to spot wildlife before on-shore exploration.

Guest lecturers include John and Tracy Fleming, Michael Buerk, Bill Miller, Tony Leon, Tom Keneally, James Bradley, Mark Elovitz and Piet De Vries.
